“Ca-brewing”

Ca-brewing: (n), an activity in which one rents a canoe (or a kayak) and spends a lazy afternoon floating down the kentucky river while working one’s way thru a pack of beer with good friends.

Last sunday, the roomates and I went with my aunt tina and her family (don’t worry, we were the only ones playing by the rules!)!

Summer

TOOOO long since a post, so I will try to catch you up on my last summer as a student!

Talon Winery: summer concerts with the classmates and lots of good wine!

Group picture! Everyone say “I love wine!”

Post-wine. Yup.

Roomates with biggest wine glass ever, we want it in our house real bad.

Engagements: My best friend Cara Toolan will soon be Mrs. vavrek on New Year’s Eve!! Yayyyyyy!!

Oh hey crazy facess…. glad you are marrying each other.

Weddings: Yes, katherine and adam (my bff from high school) got hitched in the moutnains of NC!

Beautiful bridemaids!

July 4th FUN:  Ali and I went to a pops concert downtown Lexington with aunt tina and the gang! SO much fun and good food!

Me and Ali!

Aunt tina!

The kids madison and cody….we’re going canoeing this sunday!

The next night we headed downtown for fireworks and fun!

Question: who doesn’t love my hair clips and matching tee?

ALi and I rode a pedi-cab home!!

Fountain Hopping: ok, so for my roomate’s (ellen) birthday we surprised her after her birthday dinner with a unique experience of fountain hopping! For those of you who don’t know it’s like a pub crawl for fountains where you can swim and play in the public fountains!  We hit up 4 hoppin water works and had an absolute blast!

Stop #1, group shot!

birthday girl was a happy camper!

“State Fair”: this is in quotes because I thought it was the official state fair but behold, it was the bluegrass fair which entails a little mexico(seriously an area where all the booths sold mexican fare) and the other half was red neck city, holler.  We of course watched the pig racing and duh milked a cow!

Get it twila and Mary!

the pig races! Kevin “Bacon” won! Hahahahahaa!

Minor League baseball: the Lexington Legends is always a winner in my book… especially on dollar beer and hotdog night!

You know it.

My Birthday:  I went home the weekend of my birthday for a wedding that Drew was in but I came home to a lovely surprise from the roomies!  I’m 24, whoa.

Dashing, just dashing.

My room after a long flight back to KY!

They know me and my heart for brownies oh so well!

Serve the City: I have started going downtown with my church (Southland Church) and serving the people who live in the not so good neighborhoods and need love and basic necessities.  It has been so much fun and I am sad when i have to miss a week!  I can’t help but think of the song lyrics “Greater things are yet to come and greater things are still to be done in this city!”

Some of the streets we serve and part of the 50+ people that come out every week!

Just a smattering of my 2010 summer, it was awesome and I definitely savored my last summer of freedom!

Hillbilly Hot Dogs

So,I am just now getting around to uploading my pictures from my camera, and found LOTS of good stuff. Including these next few pics from a little place called Lesage, WV. During my WV clinical this summer, my host family took me to see the sights!

This is Hillbilly Hot Dogs, you may have heard of it from such things as “Diner, Dives, and Drive-ins” or the redneck’s guide to good eatin’.

Either way it was as good as they say and even cooler to stare at in shock and awe, and not just the restaurant itself but the customers as well…

welcome to hillbilly hot dogs!

welcome to the bus.

me and maggie on the school bus

that's right ladies and gentleman, jamie oliver approved!

the menu was awesome, look it up! huge hot dogs!

the PT crew in WV!

Not kidding, saw this on the news tonight! Cute, but also creepy!

Week 1!

Week one of my 2nd clinical rotation is almost over and I am having F-U-N! I am on the skilled nursing floor at Thomas memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV and am working with people (mostly older, >75 years old) who need to stay in the hospital longer than a couple of days b/c they aren’t strong enough to go home yet but can’t stay in the ICU. Some funny funny old people(one lady calls her ginger ale her “martini”) and some grouchy ones too- but learning a lot all the same!

I am staying with my classmate, maggie, and her family while she does her clinical here as well, her hometown. I am learning to sew (finished a pillowcase tonight!) and cooking and celebrated cinco de mayo yesterday with margaritas!

Not my picture, but essentailly what I am doing, hehe.

So easter sunday was an especially special day for me, I was baptised!!!  Southland did their annual baptisms in the pond on easter afternoon and after some nudging from the good Lord above I decided to jump in.  I have never made this decision of my own will and it is time to step up and act on this faith that I can talk about all I want!

Drew was up here for easter weekend and some of my friends came out to support me!  It wasn’t that cold and i was able to wear chacos to avoid the mucky bottom, ew.

me and amanda! she did it in august!

what a great day, best easter ever!!!!

Spring break!!!

For spring break 2010, I drove to NC last saturday night! I spent a bit ‘o time with drew then headed off to the beach for a few days by myself. My parents were out of town until wednesday and drew was busy with school so I peaced out and ate, drank, slept, read, and took very long baths for a few days all while watching the ocean. It was awesome.
I even stopped by greeneville to visit Katie at school on my way home!

Then, early on friday morning I caravaned(?) with ansley and phil up to hendersonville, NC for a reunion mountain trip with bff’s from unc!!!! Lauren found this amazing house and we packed 13 people in it for the weekend!
